Classroom Atmosphere: Every student has the right to learn and the responsibility to allow others to learn. Students will be expected to follow all school rules and classroom negotiated norms. All behaviors are treated seriously.
Consequences for Misbehavior: All disruptions will be handled first using a verbal warning, then reflection writing, and if the problem still persists, timeouts with a phone call. In the event that a student chooses to interfere with the positive environment of the classroom, the student will be sent to the Asst. Principal for a conference and further disciplinary action. Any actions that are taken are recorded in a behavior log that will be viewed by administrators and/or parents.
Consequences for Good Behavior: Students who exhibit exceptional behavior and performance will be rewarded by:
Verbal praises - Home contact (telephone, note, or email) - Participation in special activities - Student of the Week/Month Certificates - Britton Bobcat Bucks points good for the student store
Grades: Teachers use Aeries for their grade book and post grades online through the same service. I recommend that you check your grades once a week by clicking on the Aeries logo at the Britton web site http://britton.mhusd.org/ and logging in with your student username and password. (Students and parents may obtain usernames and passwords from the office.) You can sign up for a weekly email! Grades will be assigned according to the district recommended percentages listed below.
94 -100 = A 90 - 93 = A - 87 - 89 = B+ 83 - 86 = B 80 - 82 = B- 77 - 79 = C+ 73 -76 C 70 - 72 C-
Assignments: Daily assignments will be worth 40% of the student’s grade - including classwork, participation, notes, and homework. A successful student participates in all classroom activities. Students will be scored on participation and completion of the assignment. If a student is absent, he/she must complete the missed assignment. It is strongly recommended that students who miss several days of school come in before or after school for help in getting caught up. Homework club is offered in the Library Monday through Thursday for a hour after school. Late work for sixth grade is due in a timely manner. Assessments: Assessments will be worth 60% of the students' grade - 10% for Collaborative Assessments and 50% for Individual Assessments. Benchmarks like MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) do not affect the student’s grade, but are used to determine what resources may be needed for the students to maximize their learning experience. Multiple assessment opportunities are provided with study guides. Extra Credit is given randomly throughout the year.
Textbooks: Each student receives one English textbook that should be kept in a safe place at home and an eBook (Studysync.

In sixth grade, All behavior expectations and consequences are the same as those described in the English syllabus on the previous page.
Textbooks: Each student receives one TCI history textbook and access to the online resources .
Grades will be assigned according to the same district recommended percentages as math and will be posted on Aeries.
Homework: Students will typically be assigned social studies homework one or two days a week with at least two nights to complete it. First semester, usually has daily mapping. 2 questions a night. Rarely will there may be a weekend assignment. Late work will not be accepted if over 2 weeks late. It is very difficult for students when work is late because we move quickly in History. Onto the next civilization! Assignments will be posted on my web page and are posted daily on our agenda board. Work is done on-line or given in packets from the workbook.
Students are expected to have their agendas available on a daily basis. A monthly grade will be issued for completing their agenda (writing down weekly homework).

Assessments: Tests will be given at the end of each unit. Additionally, quizzes may be given at the conclusion of important topics throughout the unit or after each lesson. Projects allow students another way to show what they have learned.
Code of Honor: Students participating in acts of deception, i.e. copying or talking during testing will receive a 0 on the assignment.The student will be referred to the Britton administrators for disciplinary action. Second offenses will receive negative points.
